McCafe Coming to Bryan McDonalds

June 16, 2008

So we went to the McDonald’s on S. Texas in Bryan yesterday to get an iced coffee, and I asked if they had Mocha flavor yet. I always ask that just in case (I’m still not sure why mocha wasn’t one of the first options, I mean, before Caramel and Hazelnut at least).

Well, to my surprise, they said they would have it next week. Cool! Then they told me they were actually closing that day for remodeling and adding a McCafe.

I had never heard of a McCafe, but it looks like it’s meant to be competition for Dunkin Donuts and Starbuck’s…with lower prices.

McDonald’s claims that 1 out of 10 coffees are bought at McDonald’s, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that were true.

Well, I don’t know exactly when the McDonald’s will reopen or if more of the restaurants in town will be adding a McCafe in the future, but I’m looking forward to at least sampling the Iced Mocha.

Maybe the coffee smell will overpower the regular smell that inevitably permeates McDonald’s restaurants. I worked at a McDonald’s in San Antonio for a couple of years back in the late 80s (the Cure, Metallica) and I still can’t shake that distinct smell out of my mind.

I’ll update this post with more info.

About Me

I moved my family here from San Antonio in December of 2005. We really love living here. When we were planning on coming here, we thought it would be like those towns you pass going 70mph on 21 between Bastrop and Madisonville, Well, we were wrong. There’s everything here. From Panda Express to Abercrombie and Fitch, Sears to Chili’s and at least 9 Starbuck's.

We’ve just been so pleased by the people here, the business owners and the restaurants, I thought I’d write about stuff we’ve experienced. We’ve found that it’s a mix of laid back good-old-boy and forward thinking entrepenuer. Lots of mom-and-pop companies that have been here for years as well as all the chains you’d expect from a population of 75,000 to 150,000.
