Why Am I Writing?
I moved my family here from San Antonio in December of 2005. We really love living here. When we were planning on coming here, we thought it would be like those towns you pass going 70mph on 21 between Bastrop and Madisonville, Well, we were wrong. There’s everything here. From Panda Express to Abercrombie and Fitch, Sears to Chili’s, 9 Starbuck’s, road construction going on it’s 2nd year, 3 H-E-B’s and even an ice skating rink. No Red Robin’s…yet.
We’ve just been so pleased by the people here, the business owners and the restaurants, I thought I’d write about stuff we’ve experienced. We’ve found that it’s a mix of laid back good-old-boy and forward thinking entrepreneur. Lots of mom-and-pop companies that have been here for years as well as all the chains you’d expect from a population of 75,000 to 150,000.
Bryan and College Station are pretty much connected. The towns are definitely different, each having it’s own set of “What” and “Why”.
Mostly on my posts I’ll be talking about local restaurants and stores, as well as stuff to do around town. And just so you know, I like finding and doing free stuff, so a lot of the stuff we do is free.
I’ve got 4 kids, so many of the reviews will have “kid friendly” advice and activities, but not all of them. My wife and I actually go out alone every once in a while.
We live about 8 miles Northeast of town in a quiet neighborhood on about an acre of land. We come into town almost every day, and just love it here.
It seems that except for the City of College Station and City of Bryan website, there’s not too much as far as a restaurant review or a dining guide, so I thought I’d get on that wagon. I probably won’t be going to all the restaurants in town, and I’ll probably skip the more expensive ones, unless we’re taken there by friends or family (which has happened…stay tuned).
I also would like to shamelessly promote my graphic design business: GoycoDesign.
I considered naming it “Aggieland Blog”, but thought against it because I’m not an Aggie. (seems every other company has “Aggieland” in it (Aggieland Plumbing, Aggieland Credit Union, Aggieland Rentals, etc.).
And I guess also I’m taking the lead from my brother who is blogging about San Antonio Restaurants over at TheDishOnFood. Good stuff in case you decide to visit San Antonio.
Enjoy!
